2023 is go-live
TGW implements highly automated solution for Urban Outfitters
Urban Outfitters Inc (URBN) is one of the leading lifestyle fashion retailers. The fashion specialist recently commissioned TGW to build a highly automated solution for its new fulfillment center in Kansas City (USA). The go-live is already planned for 2023.
At the heart of the system is FlashPick, the intelligent solution for fully automated split case picking. The single order management approach sets standards in terms of speed and flexibility - as well as in the combination of distribution channels.
The design of the fulfillment center in Kansas City is based on the solution that TGW is currently building for Urban Outfitters in the UK. It includes two fully automated picking robots Rovolution and 46 manual picking workstations PickCenter One.
In the incoming goods department, the incoming cartons are reloaded into containers and stored. From the shuttle there, the orders are transported to 46 high-performance goods-to-person workstations and then to packaging or dispatch. The individual areas of the facility are connected with energy-efficient KingDrive® conveyor technology. All processes are monitored by the TGW Warehouse Software, which is connected to the customer's Manhattan Warehouse Management System via an interface.
Urban Outfitters and TGW are working closely together on the projects in the USA and the UK. Regardless of whether retail or online orders are placed, the operational processes are the same for both sales channels. This brings a number of advantages and simplifies global employee training and maintenance processes, among other things.
TGW is a strong partner for URBN and has used agile thinking to develop a customized solution that allows us to align our speed and efficiency with the needs of our rapidly growing global business," said Melinda McClure, Executive Director North American Logistics at Urban Outfitters Inc. "The new distribution center in Kansas City will be highly automated and robotic, creating the necessary capacity for our growth. TGW helped us develop a modular solution that is simple yet flexible and will adapt to our customers' future needs."
"The distribution center is a milestone and marks a new level in the cooperation between Urban Outfitters and TGW," emphasizes Chad Zollman, CSO TGW North America. "It underscores TGW's commitment to being the partner of choice for Urban Outfitters in intralogistics automation."
