Swisslog wins major order from Stihl

Andreas Stihl S.p.A., the world market leader for outdoor work equipment, relies on Swisslog for its warehouse in Italy: It The new AutoStore system comprises 16,900 bins on 16 levels and is equipped with 17 robots and 5 picking stations. The system is controlled by Swisslog's SynQ software.

The warehouse of Andreas Stihl S.p.A. had reached its capacity limits due to the strong growth in product volume and the expansion of the product range. The task was to redesign a modern and efficient warehouse. The company commissioned Swisslog to implement an automated warehouse with high storage capacity, which is located at the Cambiago plant.

Thanks to the implementation of the AutoStore system, the automated warehouse of Andreas Stihl S.p.A. now has workstations for storage, picking and inventory, new storage and handling capacities and an extended picking area. Today, the company employs 71 people in Italy and relies on green manufacturing methods with a strong focus on sustainability, from production to distribution. In the last ten years, Andreas Stihl S.p.A. has quadrupled its turnover.

Efficient material flow
The new AutoStore system guarantees efficient performance for order fulfillment. This is implemented by the pick-by-light system, which greatly reduces the error rate during order picking, simplifies operation and guarantees smooth processes. "The process in the AutoStore is precisely controlled by the SynQ software from Swisslog. We are delighted to be able to support Stihl on the path to more digitalization in the supply chain," emphasizes Dr. Christian Baur, CEO of Swisslog. "Swisslog drives innovative solutions like this from our Swiss headquarters with a large software development team. In addition, customers can rely on our large local implementation and service team," Baur continues.
