High-bay warehouse
New system technology from SSI Schäfer at Einhell
Einhell's new landmark in Landau a. d. Isar was officially put into operation on November 12, 2021. The fully automated high-bay warehouse measures 43 meters in height and was implemented by SSI Schaefer as general contractor for the entire intralogistics. With the new building, the leading manufacturer of ultra-modern tools for home and garden has created the conditions to process the disproportionately increasing number of orders in an environmentally friendly, efficient and fast manner in the long term.
Within ten months, 240,000 cubic meters of space were converted and the intralogistics components were installed at the same time. Up to 2.3 million products can be stored and prepared for dispatch in the new distribution center. With the new logistics center, Einhell Germany AG, the nationwide market leader for cordless lawn mowers and DIY stationary tools, is responding to rising sales figures in conjunction with increasingly demanding customers. "We want to offer our customers not only excellent product quality, but also a reliable delivery service and high product availability. This is also one of the success factors of a growing company," says Dr. Markus Thannhuber, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Einhell Germany AG. The previously manually organized logistics system was no longer able to meet these requirements in the long term.
The new high-bay warehouse offers a capacity of more than 41,000 pallet storage locations over 17 levels with double-deep storage. These are supplied and removed by five 42-meter-high SSI Exyz two-mast storage and retrieval machines from SSI Schaefer, which are equipped with two load handling devices. Each device can store and retrieve 35 items per hour. In addition, SSI Schaefer installed the infeed and outfeed pallet conveyor technology with integrated layer palletizing. At the same time, the standardized warehouse logistics software Wamas WMS was implemented, which is used to continuously control all processes, taking into account the daily order load. Wamas Lighthouse is used as the central information system for visualization, dashboards, charts, messages and administration.
Acting more sustainably in both logistics and transportation
"As the market leader with proven software expertise in the field of intralogistics, SSI Schaefer supplies the entire system technology from a single source, so that projects can be implemented with minimal interfaces and in the desired quality within the shortest possible time," emphasizes Jürgen Kalkenbrenner, Head of Logistics Solutions Germany at SSI Schaefer and responsible for project planning. "But sustainability aspects also spoke in favor of SSI Schaefer from Einhell's point of view. Thanks to their counterweight in the mast, the SSI Exyz storage and retrieval machines consume significantly less energy than comparable solutions." Thanks to the centralization of distribution at the Landau a. d. Isar site, Einhell was also able to dissolve external warehouse structures. As a result, around 2,000 truck journeys per year due to stock transfers can now be avoided.
