META and Safelog: Sustainable combination
The combination of META shelving and the newly developed Safelog beamer shuttle was presented for the first time at LogiMAT in Stuttgart. This new product optimizes and accelerates logistics processes by allowing several orders to be processed simultaneously.
Intralogistics expert Safelog from Kirchheim near Munich and warehouse logistics specialist META-Regalbau from Arnsberg have been working together since December 2015. Dr. Klaus Vatter, Managing Director of META-Regalbau, and Michael Wolter, Managing Director of Safelog, explain how the cooperation between the two companies came about and outline the environment and future of the collaboration.
Material flow: What was the trigger for the strategic cooperation?Michael Wolter: META and Safelog have successfully implemented projects together in the past and have found that they cooperate excellently. META's technically sophisticated shelf system, supplemented by Safelog's beamer shuttle, gives customers clear advantages in order picking: a drastic reduction in errors in the picking process and a significant increase in productivity.
MFL: And how exactly does this work?Dr. Klaus Vatter: Both are achieved by the patented access monitoring system with automatic acknowledgement at the picking and storage compartments. The instructions are displayed to the employee directly on the shelf and picking trolley. Thanks to ergonomically designed system components and intelligent pick-by-beamer technology, our solutions achieve a high picking performance with enormous error tolerance - right down to "zero-error picking".
MFL: And how do customers who rely on this combination benefit?Wolter: In a nutshell: from integrated intralogistics solutions based on coordinated warehouse planning. We don't just want to link two systems, we want to achieve added value for our customers. To achieve this, several orders are processed on one picking trolley - simultaneously, flexibly and in a time-saving manner. META and Safelog have a comprehensive product range, are innovative and develop customized solutions.
MFL: What challenges does the industry have to face?Wolter: In addition to the increasing cost pressure in warehouses and the associated need to change existing intralogistics processes, the variety of articles and thus the required picking performance will continue to increase due to the increasing spread of e-commerce and Internet trade.Dr. Vatter: Together, we want to support customers from the retail, distribution and production sectors with our systems to successfully master future tasks.
