New construction of the Asklepios clinics
Fully automated high-bay warehouse enables logistics for medical products
The ground-breaking ceremony for the new central warehouse of Asklepios Kliniken took place on July 20. After completion of the large logistics hall and an office extension, the new site in Bad Oldesloe will supply more than 150 facilities of the clinic group between Sylt and Lake Constance from the end of 2021.
External clinics can also be served. In total, the fully automated high-bay warehouse will provide space for several thousand different medical products. Around 70 jobs will also be created.
"The coronavirus pandemic in particular has shown us all how important excellent logistics and competent stockpiling are for ongoing medical operations and thus the care of our patients," said Kai Hankeln, CEO of Asklepios Kliniken, at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new central warehouse. "With the new, ultra-modern central warehouse, we will have even better, software-controlled logistics in future, and we will also have significantly more space available and will be able to deliver nationwide for the first time, i.e. supply our facilities from Sylt to Lake Constance with all the necessary products," explained Reinhard Wiedemann, Managing Director of Asklepios Service Einkauf und Versorgung GmbH, which commissioned and will also operate the new central warehouse.
On completion in mid-2021, the new warehouse will measure around 160 x 90 meters in total, plus an office extension measuring 60 x 12 meters. The height of the new warehouse will be 15 meters and will house fully automated conveyor technology for the high-bay warehouse with a total of 20,000 pallet spaces. The total area of the new building is approx. 16,000 square meters.
The new central warehouse is being built by Goldbeck (general contractor). SMB International, a company specializing in palletizing systems and warehouse robotics, is developing and building the complete, fully automated high-bay warehouse and automated picking systems for Asklepios.
