FoodOase automates warehouse with AutoStore

The online food business is still on the rise and calls for intelligent, flexible logistics concepts. FoodOase GmbH offers food for people with allergies and intolerances in its online store. The company relied on the AutoStore system, implemented by intralogistics expert Element Logic, for an automated warehouse.

In the past, FoodOase handled its warehouse logistics externally via a logistics service provider, for whom the strong growth of the company with its manually operated warehouse posed an increasing challenge. With growth forecasts remaining very positive, founder and Managing Director Sandra Neuber quickly realized that a new logistics concept was needed. As a result, the entrepreneur has now rented a logistics hall in Geesthacht. Logistics is to be integrated into the company in the future.

The planning and realization of the new warehouse is a collaboration between Element Logic and the Hamburg logistics consultants LogBer. At the heart of the warehouse will be a fully automated robot-based AutoStore storage and picking system, planned and implemented by Element Logic. In the first expansion stage, the system will cover an area of 220 m² and will handle orders from all of the company's online stores. According to the founder, this is one of the largest and most important investments in the history of FoodOase.

"Our customers expect us to ship very quickly and reliably. This is particularly important for them. Due to their special dietary requirements, they usually can't find the food they tolerate and need for their daily requirements in the supermarket. With our scalable, automated warehouse, we want to ensure that we can continue to meet these expectations in the future and at all times," says Sandra Neuber.

In addition to the central AutoStore solution, Element Logic as general contractor is also supplying a warehouse management and material flow control system for this project, which in addition to AutoStore also organizes and optimizes the entire manual areas of the logistics center. In the first stage, the FoodOase AutoStore system includes 6,100 containers and 13 AutoStore robots. Three carousel ports are available for storing and retrieving goods. The completed system is to be handed over to the customer by February 2021 at the latest.
