Alexander Bürkle is a family-run group of companies. The electrical wholesaler and technology service provider was looking for an intralogistics solution for its headquarters in Freiburg im Breisgau. The limited space available in the established industrial area was to be optimally utilized. Element Logic offered the most convincing overall package and was commissioned by the company with the detailed planning and installation of an AutoStore system.

In order to replace existing manual picking processes and create capacity for future growth, the existing buildings in Freiburg were expanded to include a new building with an integrated AutoStore system. The compact system is connected to the existing system (storage, picking and dispatch lanes) by intralogistics experts Element Logic and is able to accommodate around 45,000 containers in an area of just 800 m². The small parts previously stored in shelving racks will be relocated to the AutoStore system and the shelving warehouse will then be dismantled. The space freed up will be used to create additional ramps and dispatch preparation areas. The expansion and conversion work will be carried out during ongoing operations.

In total, the AutoStore system from Alexander Bürkle initially comprises 21 robots, 45,000 containers, 4 conveyor ports for goods storage and 5 carousel ports for order picking. The modular design of AutoStore allows for expansions during operation. By installing the picking workstations on an intermediate level, additional free space can be created on the floor. The AutoStore robots transport the bins from the goods-in workstations on the first floor directly into the system. Order totes are automatically provided at the picking workstations via conveyor technology and transported onwards.

"In Element Logic, we have found a reliable partner with many years of experience in the planning and implementation of AutoStore systems. We were also impressed by the service portfolio to ensure high system availability. Only an AutoStore solution made it possible for us to achieve the desired storage capacity on the available space," concludes Simon Straub, Managing Director at Alexander Bürkle.
