Hybrid truck
Scania supplies trucks for e-highways
Three e-highway practical tests are planned in Germany next year. Scania will provide the vehicles required for this. The 15 trucks are to be tested on several transport routes by haulage companies.
Charging while driving
The vehicles are equipped with pantograph pantographs developed by Siemens and mounted on the chassis behind the cab. These charge whenever the vehicle is in motion. "Unlike cars, which spend most of the day parked and stationary, trucks are used for many hours on transport jobs where stops for charging can be extremely disruptive. E-highways offer practical and efficient charging options along the route. This approach is also easy on batteries and the supply network," says Magnus Höglund, Head of Electric Road System, Scania.
First test track in Hesse
Several studies see e-highways as a sensible way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The first R 450 hybrid truck from Scania for Hesse, where the first test track will be located, is scheduled for delivery in May 2019. In addition to providing the trucks, Scania will also take care of vehicle maintenance and data collection during these practical tests.
