Resumption of production
Renault Trucks prepares gradual restart of French plants
Production, which has been at a standstill at Renault Trucks' French plants since March 18, is now preparing for a gradual and safe restart of activities.
Despite the lockdown and the temporary interruption of production, Renault Trucks has maintained customer service, mainly through the supply of spare parts and the regular service and repair services provided by the workshops. Other areas, however, such as production or research and development, have come to a standstill for a month due to home office regulations and short-time working.
Renault Trucks is now starting to continue its activities in these areas as well. The French production sites will gradually increase their production from April 23, starting with the Lyon-Venissieux engine plant. Other Renault Trucks plants such as Bourg-en-Bresse or Blainville-sur-Orne will gradually ramp up their production capacities over the coming weeks. Production rates will be based on customer demand and suppliers' ability to deliver, and will be synchronized with the restart of other Volvo Group production plants.
The industrial restart is also linked to the condition that enhanced health protocols, which were agreed with union and employee representatives, are implemented in all areas. These health protection measures were drawn up by company doctors and cover all employee work processes and spaces, from changing rooms to workstations. "We will only continue with our activities if the health and safety conditions are impeccable - there will be no compromises here. For this reason, we are pursuing a gradual restart that will give us the opportunity to test our safety measures, as well as the supply chain and logistics, before considering the full reactivation of production," explains Bruno Blin, President of Renault Trucks. The departments not directly involved in production will continue to follow a home office protocol where possible and carry out work from there for safety reasons.
