Renault Trucks goes into series production with new e-trucks
In March, Renault Trucks began series production of the D Z.E. and D Wide Z.E. electric trucks. Production of the electric trucks starts at the manufacturer's plant in Blainville-sur-Orne in Normandy.
The site specializes in medium-weight commercial vehicles and driver's cabs. It produces 240 cabs and assembles 72 distribution vehicles every day. It is now also home to the assembly of the manufacturer's electric trucks.
Various measures have been implemented at the Blainville-sur-Orne production facility to ensure the production of electric models. Accordingly, the so-called "Z.E. building" with an area of 1,800 square meters is now entirely dedicated to the electrification of vehicles.
In the Z.E. building, technical steps are carried out on the Renault Trucks D Z.E. and D Wide Z.E. before and after assembly. It is also used as a warehouse for component parts, including a temperature-controlled area for storing batteries.
The Renault Trucks D Z.E. and D Wide Z.E. are assembled on the same assembly line as the equivalent diesel vehicles. At the end of the production line, the electric trucks return to the Z.E. building so that the technicians can carry out the final electro-specific work steps and perform quality checks. The electric vehicles then go through the next stages of series production with a test on the test track and on the test bench to measure performance.
Renault Trucks expects electric vehicles to account for ten percent of its own sales volume by 2025.
