Lufthansa Cargo lays foundation stone for new art warehouse at Frankfurt hub

The so-called ArtCube in the Lufthansa Cargo Center will in future have an area of 168 square meters and offer its customers secure storage for valuable works of art of all kinds. The new building is part of the modernization of the airfreight hub in Frankfurt initiated by Lufthansa Cargo and is scheduled to go into operation at the end of the year.

"With the new ArtCube, we can offer our customers a safe and modern environment that, combined with dedicated handling, meets the high demands of sensitive works of art," explains Harald Gloy, Chief Operations and Human Resources Officer at the cargo airline. "We are aware of the special responsibility involved in handling works of art, which are not only valuable, but usually unique and irretrievable. This is precisely why we have developed a tailor-made solution for the storage of artworks and exhibits in our hub in close cooperation with art forwarders and curators, so that our customers know their shipments are in the best hands."

The new art storage facility will be equipped with self-sufficient air conditioning units with heating and cooling functions, creating a virtually constant temperature. The vertical window strips provide the ArtCube with natural lighting. There is a separate recreation area for art attendants. Access to the special storage area is restricted by state-of-the-art security technology.

The new construction of the art warehouse is one of the first steps of the modular planned infrastructure program "LCCevolution" of the cargo crane at the Frankfurt home hub - several preparatory measures for the new construction of the central high-bay warehouse in the Lufthansa Cargo Center are being carried out in parallel. The complete modernization of the Lufthansa Cargo Center is scheduled for completion in 2029.
