LNG as a bridge to the future
Krummen Kerzers and Lidl Switzerland awarded Hanse Globe
Great honor for Krummen Kerzers AG: The logistics service provider receives the Hanse Globe for its pilot project "LNG - Bridge to the Future" together with Lidl Switzerland. The prestigious prize is awarded by the Hamburg Logistics Initiative in recognition of sustainable projects that have already been implemented or are currently being realized. Krummen Kerzers and Lidl Switzerland are currently investing in the development of an LNG filling station network in Switzerland and in the purchase of new liquid gas vehicles. The aim of the project is to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions.
"We are delighted that our cooperation project with Krummen Kerzers has been honored with the Hanse Globe. Our project stands for pioneering spirit in the field of sustainability. We want to show that sustainable logistics and economic efficiency are not mutually exclusive. The prestigious Hanse Globe honors and promotes our commitment and cooperation," emphasizes Alessandro Wolf, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Lidl Switzerland.
With the "LNG Bridge to the Future" project, Krummen Kerzers and Lidl intend to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions in the long term. For this reason, the two companies are planning to build an LNG filling station network covering the main east/west transport axis in Switzerland. The consortium also plans to put up to 50 LNG vehicles into operation by 2020. Compared to conventional diesel trucks, these emit around 10 percent less CO2, 35 percent less air pollutants and even 95 percent less particulate matter. In addition, LNG engines are only half as loud as diesel engines.
The joint venture between Krummen Kerzers and Lidl Switzerland on the subject of liquefied natural gas is not the first collaboration between the two companies. They have already joined the Lean & Green initiative and committed to reducing their CO2 emissions by 20 percent within five years. Both received the Lean & Green Award this year for their commitment to sustainability. Peter Krummen, Managing Director of Krummen Kerzers AG: "Acting sustainably is a corporate premise for us. The fact that the topic is now also gaining importance among many shippers shows that we are on the right track. Against this background, the award of the Hanse Globe is a nice confirmation of our work."
