Hoyer Group expands green fleet

Alternative drives play a central role for the Hoyer Group with regard to the environment. The company is gradually expanding its fleet with LNG tractor units and CNG vehicles. The latest addition: two LNG trucks, which the logistics company has put on the road together with Nippon Gases Deutschland.

With the two Iveco Stralis 440S40 NP tractor units powered by liquid natural gas, Hoyer transports industrial gases such as hydrogen and nitrogen for Nippon Gases Deutschland from the Hürth site throughout the state of North Rhine-Westphalia every day.

15 percent less fuel consumption

Last year, the company put the same model into operation for mineral oil transportation. The environmental and performance values - 15 percent less carbon dioxide emissions and 60 percent less nitrogen oxide - prompted the logistics company to make further investments despite the higher acquisition costs. The 15 percent lower fuel consumption compared to its diesel counterpart, the low-noise engine and significantly lower noise pollution were further convincing plus points.

"Not only transporting alternative energies, but also using them"

"As an expert in the transportation of pressurized and cryogenic liquefied gases, we ensure the safe and smooth transportation of all types of gases on a daily basis. The growing LNG market in particular is having a positive impact on our business performance," says Thomas Hüttemann, Managing Director of the Hoyer Group's Gaslog business unit. "It was therefore a logical consequence for us not only to transport these alternative energies, but also to use them ourselves with immediate effect," says Hüttemann.

The logistics company also has seven CNG-powered vehicles in Germany. 96 percent of Hoyer's tractor units in Germany already have low-emission engines in the Euro 6 class.
