Environmentally friendly CNG truck
Gebrüder Weiss and Henkel step on the gas together
The logistics company Gebrüder Weiss and the consumer goods manufacturer Henkel are jointly implementing an environmentally friendly transportation solution: A truck powered 100 percent by CNG gas is now taking over transports between the Henkel plants in Vienna and Kruševac in Serbia.
For one tour, the gas truck covers a distance of around 1,700 kilometers. Compared to a EURO 6 diesel truck, the gas truck saves around 20 percent carbon dioxide over the distance.
More gas trucks deployed in Vienna and Memmingen
The Henkel truck is already the third gas-powered truck for Gebrüder Weiss, with others already in use at the Vienna and Memmingen sites. Since September 2018, the company has also been testing a fully electric truck in the greater Vienna area. The focus of the latter is on the electrification of urban distribution transport, where zero emissions and low noise pollution play an important role.
Use on other routes tested
"The truck will transport detergents and cleaning agents between Austria and Serbia two to three times a week on a round trip, covering more than 200,000 kilometers a year. Together with Gebrüder Weiss, we are currently examining the extent to which this transport solution can also be used on other routes," explains Patrick Csar, Logistics and Export Manager Supply Chain Laundry & Home Care at Henkel.
