The vehicles will be used for inner-city distribution transport by Stadslogistiek, an urban delivery initiative of PostNL. A total of six FUSO eCanters are now on the road for Stadslogistiek in the Dutch cities of The Hague (2 vehicles), Nijmegen, Tilburg, Amersfoort and Maastricht.

From Green City Hubs to the city center
With the Stadslogistiek initiative, PostNL and its partners want to make urban delivery logistics smarter and more sustainable. Partners of the initiative are forwarding companies with good locations on the outskirts of the city. Together they have created so-called Green City Hubs (logistics centers). Stadslogistiek's customers are mainly companies in the city center. Their suppliers have agreed to deliver all goods to the hubs instead of directly to the various delivery addresses in the city center. Stadslogistiek collects all goods there and bundles the deliveries to the customers in the city center. This is where the FUSO eCanter comes into play.

Quietly and without local emissions, the FUSO eCanter zooms from the hubs to the city center, contributing to a better urban living space. The 7.49-tonne light trucks transport all kinds of goods, which are aggregated into heavier bundles on pallets and loaded into the box body with a payload of up to 3.5 tons. Typical goods transported include printer paper, coffee supplies or new towels for customers such as retailers, town halls, ministries or insurance offices. With a range of 100 kilometers, the FUSO eCanters reliably cover Stadslogistiek's needs in inner-city distribution transport. In the evening, the eCanter trucks then return to their respective Green City Hubs. There they are fully charged overnight so that they are ready to set off for the city center in the morning with a new delivery order.

So far, 18 FUSO eCanters from Daimler Trucks' small series production in Tramagal, Portugal, have been delivered to customers in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, the FUSO eCanter is also proving to be a reliable delivery van in other European countries, Japan and the USA. A total of more than 180 vehicles are now in daily use by customers in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Dublin and Lisbon, to name but a few.
