DB Schenker presents new logistics center in Augsburg
GVZ Augsburg is a strategically important location factor for the Augsburg/Bavarian Swabia region and represents a hub for freight transport in a central location between Ulm and Munich. In a festive opening event on October 8, DB Schenker presented a new logistics hall with a total storage area of 38,000 square meters at the GVZ Augsburg.
KUKA and MediaShop Group as customers
The logistics service provider serves internationally active companies that are of central importance to the Augsburg site, such as the robot manufacturer KUKA and the MediaShop Group. Including the new warehouse that was recently put into operation, DB Schenker now has 78,000 square meters of commercial space for contract logistics at the site. In the Augsburg region, the company operates various logistics businesses at several locations on a total of around 140,000 square meters.

On behalf of Schenker Deutschland AG, CEO Karl-Heinz Emberger welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of the Augsburg GVZ site: "DB Schenker's growing commitment to the Augsburg site represents an extremely successful win-win situation for the region and all the companies involved. As a global logistics provider, we provide the economy with an integrated logistics network that is essential for the competitiveness of both industry and trade." Emberger thanked all those involved for their commitment to the implementation, especially the politicians who set the framework conditions.
Ralf Schmidtmann, Managing Director of GVZ Entwicklungs GmbH, outlined the development of the GVZ Augsburg and looked to the future. In subsequent discussion forums, other representatives from business and politics as well as those companies for which DB Schenker is taking on logistics tasks in the new areas spoke. Guests included Klaus König, Chairman of the Management Board of KUKA Robotics.
