Storage- and racking systems: Torwegge: TORsten is nominated for the German Design Award 2018

Bielefeld, 18.07.2017 - The automated guided vehicle system (AGV) TORsten from Torwegge GmbH & Co. KG has been nominated for the German Design Award 2018. The prize is awarded by the German Design Council.

The award ceremony will take place in February 2018. TORsten is one of the candidates in the Excellent Product Design Industry category. Evaluation criteria for the jury include brand value and branding, brand fit and aesthetics. Torwegge took these factors into account when developing the AGV.

"Appearance is of central importance to us during development. Our aim is to build functional products that are beautiful and visually fit in with our company," says Uwe Schildheuer, CEO of TORWEGGE GmbH & Co. For this reason, the system developer from Bielefeld has also focused on aesthetics with TORsten. The product design was created by Dieter Willudda, project manager and design engineer at Torwegge.

In keeping with TORWEGGE's corporate design, the vehicle has the colors red and white. In addition, the three letters "TOR" in the design of the TORWEGGE logo were integrated into the logo specially developed for the AGV. The letters "sten" in italics are intended to reflect the dynamism of the vehicle. The rounded corners of the bumper, which protects the internal sensors, are intended to create a harmonious effect. "Many AGVs are not designed with the appearance in mind. The focus is clearly on how it works. We decided to give equal consideration to both," says Schildheuer.

The German Design Award is presented annually by the German Design Council. It is a closed competition for which only products that have been nominated by the Design Innovation Committee of the German Design Council or its foundation members can be submitted. "The special thing about the prize is its enormous internationality, which gives you an overview of how design is developing worldwide," says Peter Eckart, Professor of Design at the hfg Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach. The award will be presented at the Ambiente consumer goods fair in Frankfurt am Main in mid-February 2018.

The jury of the German Design Council evaluates all nominated products on the basis of a detailed list of criteria. In the Excellent Product Design Industry category, this comprises 18 factors: overall concept, design quality, brand value and branding, brand fit, originality, degree of innovation, aesthetics, product graphics and semantics, user-friendliness, functionality and operability, utility value, sustainability, ecological quality, cost-effectiveness, accessibility, symbolic and emotional content, durability, technical quality, technical function, manufacturing technology and quality. red
