Dematic automates for Spanish healthcare specialist
Dematic has installed a compact automation solution including an AutoStore system for the Spanish third-party logistics (3PL) healthcare specialist Grupo Servicio Móvil. The solution handles the warehouse management of medical supplies for one of Madrid's largest hospitals.

Compact solution with high picking and sorting accuracy
Grupo Servicio Móvil in Madrid built a warehouse in the immediate vicinity of the hospital on an area of 15,000 square meters. Due to high real estate costs, an efficient and compact solution was particularly important. The AutoStore system requires only 190 square meters and consists of three CarouselPort workstations, seven R5 robots and 5,005 bins. The system also enables energy savings: The robots use renewable energy and the operation requires no lighting.
The automation of the processes for storage, retrieval and sorting was just as much a requirement for the project as improving the accuracy of picking and sorting. In addition, inventory management was to be optimized and order processing made more efficient. It was also important to have a scalable solution that could adapt to changing business needs and future growth. The Dematic solution was able to meet all of these requirements.
Long-term partnership as a basis
The project is part of a long-standing collaboration between the companies that dates back to 2012. Back then, Grupo Servicio Móvil was the first company in Spain to install a Dematic Multishuttle system in Negreira in north-western Spain to support the healthcare sector in the region.
