Automated storage solution: space requirement reduced by 75 percent
As a provider of hospital logistics and medical data management in the Italian 3PL market, Plurima provides storage services for public and private hospitals. Dematic has now completed the installation of an AutoStore automation system for the company.
"Given the current challenges in the market, we suspected that an AutoStore system might be the best solution for our requirements. Thanks to Dematic's extensive expertise and many years of experience with this system, we quickly realized that we had found the ideal partner for our planned improvements," explains Fabio Grossi Gondi, Managing Director of Plurima.
Storage capacity of 10,000 containers
The modular, automated goods-to-person system was installed in an existing facility with a height of around six meters and a floor area of 400 square meters. With a grid height of around 3,700 millimeters, the system offers a storage capacity of 10,000 containers. The system has a storage volume of up to 758 cubic meters and achieves a storage capacity of 1.9 cubic meters per square meter. The 13 R5 robots, their loading devices and three revolving doors enable the goods to be picked and transferred efficiently.
According to Grossi Gondi, Plurima is already reaping the benefits of the solution: the company has been able to reduce its warehouse space by around 75% and cut its personnel costs for order processing to a third of the previous level. In addition, employee safety at work has also improved significantly. Filomena from Dematic sums up: "We are convinced that this successful model can also be implemented in other distribution centers and achieve similar results there."
