DB Schenker's record investment in Singapore

DB Schenker opened an air freight and contract logistics facility in Singapore this summer. The regional warehouse specializing in high speed, named "Red Lion", was built in a strategic location in Singapore's Airport Logistics Park (ALPS) and is the largest single investment in Schenker's history at EUR 101 million.

With the opening of Red Lion, DB Schenker is also celebrating the company's 50th anniversary in the "Lion City". Jochen Thewes, CEO of DB Schenker: "Among the world's leading logistics service providers, DB Schenker is strengthening its position for the APAC region. Our new logistics center will make us even faster and more reliable for our customers. The record investment in Red Lion marks an unprecedented milestone for DB Schenker in our almost 150-year history. We are happy and proud to further strengthen Singapore as the heart of our logistics operations in Asia."

The highly automated and integrated warehouse covers more than 51,400 square meters on five floors - the equivalent of seven soccer pitches. A newly developed warehouse management system and a synchronized IT platform link the various automation technologies. This increases the warehouse's productivity by up to 100% compared to manual processes. The integration of air freight and contract logistics at one location also reduces the lead time for customers by 40%. Incoming freight is handled efficiently via a ball deck. Pallet lifters and Very Narrow Aisles (VNA) ensure optimum use of storage capacity. The multi-shuttle system and carton live storage are supplemented by goods-to-person and pick-to-light technologies, conveyor belt systems and autonomous transport vehicles.

Red Lion is also the first to use a robot-based labeling system developed by DB Schenker itself. Three robotic arms label products of different sizes, shapes and configurations using 3D vision technology. David Christmas, Board Member for Contract Logistics at DB Schenker APAC: "Our new warehouse sets new records with its technological and digital innovations. It serves customers with high demands for short lead times and fast processing. Our automation and robotics will revolutionize the entire goods handling process. In this way, we are paving the way on our continuous journey towards a fully digital supply chain in contract logistics."
