DSV implements Knapp omnichannel solution

Logistics service provider DSV is focusing on automation and has commissioned Knapp with an omnichannel fulfillment solution for a new distribution center in Venlo in the Netherlands. DSV is thus equipping itself for the increasing e-commerce and B2B requirements of its customers in the textile and sports industry.

Ever shorter product life cycles and multiple sales channels require fashion retailers to offer agile supply chain solutions in line with the market. DSV wants to offer its customers in the textile and sports industry just such a solution. DSV opted for Knapp when selecting the automation technology and warehouse logistics software for the new construction phase at the DSV campus in Venlo.

Omnichannel solution with shuttle technology
The omnichannel solution is based on an OSR Shuttle Evo technology storage system - which can be used to process both store orders and e-commerce orders. The shuttle system supplies the pickers with the items they need to assemble customer orders using the goods-to-person method. The workstations from the Pick-it-Easy series are particularly ergonomically designed, and each workstation can access every item in the warehouse. Value-added service stations are used to refine individual customer orders before the shipping cartons are automatically closed and sent on the fastest route to their recipients.

Over 200 warehouse locations
DSV has more than 200 warehouse locations for various industries worldwide. The high degree of automation and confidence in the combination of KNAPP technology and software were decisive factors in awarding the contract to KNAPP. "Our new warehouse uses the most modern and innovative warehouse automation technology to meet the requirements of our customers and the needs of their customers. The new automated processes and working methods based on the 'goods-to-person' principle make our operations even more efficient. We can now use our specialist staff for the more complex tasks, while the automated solutions take over the simpler activities," explains Peter van der Maas, Executive Vice President at DSV.

Johannes Holas, Vice President Fashion Solutions at KNAPP AG, adds: "Together with DSV, we developed a maximally flexible design that is precisely tailored to the needs of the omnichannel business. The focus was on being as resilient as possible to changes in the sales channels while maintaining maximum efficiency. The timely implementation of the project in the midst of the pandemic was made possible by the outstanding performance of the DSV and KNAPP project teams." The system has been in operation since the beginning of October 2021
