WMS introduction against the background of sustainability
From September 27 to 29, the specialist medium materialfluss will be hosting presentations and workshops on the topic of sustainability in intralogistics and logistics as part of the digital networking days and offering space for networking. On September 29, participants can look forward to a presentation on the introduction of WMS against the background of sustainability from 1 pm.
Warehouse management systems (WMS) are an essential part of the logistics IT system landscape. A WMS is already in use in the majority of companies, especially if the focus of the company's activities lies in logistics. The RPS study, which was published by "Team warehouse logistics" in 2021, found that over 80% of the companies surveyed use a WMS.
Reasons for using a WMS: In most cases, economic and process-related aspects are decisive for the introduction of a WMS. These include, for example, stock transparency, permanent stocktaking or the traceability of batches. Ecological aspects tend to be a secondary consideration. The question arises as to what extent a WMS can influence sustainability in the warehouse. Economy and ecology are characterized by a causality, they are closely interlinked. If resources can be saved or activities avoided, this has a monetary impact. Against this background, it can be assumed that the standard functions offered by a WMS also offer ecological advantages compared to a warehouse with a lower degree of organization. Examples include achieving a high degree of utilization of the transport units, reducing the use of resources, for example by optimizing routes and using employees for productive activities (goods-to-person setting).

From buzzword to indispensable asset: hardly any other industry can influence the development process towards a sustainable society as much as intralogistics and logistics. The ideas of market-relevant companies for clean, efficient and flexible "green" intralogistics are good and available - the digital networking days show the current state of affairs and present products and concepts for green logistics.
