SAP implementation
WDT relies on Körber
With Körber, the Wirtschaftsgenossenschaft deutscher Tierärzte eG (WDT) is taking steps towards the future by establishing the first logistics center specifically designed for veterinary medicine.
The focus is on establishing an expanded business model that will offer added value for veterinary practices throughout Germany. WDT is supported by Körber's SAP consulting and implementation expertise.
For over 100 years, WDT has been dedicated to the production and purchase of consumables and items for the veterinary trade. With WDT's own high-quality preparations as well as practice supplies, human and wholesale products, the company is the basic supplier of veterinary practices and therefore more than just a wholesaler and producer. In future, the company will provide comprehensive logistics services via its own logistics company, VetLogOne GmbH, and supply veterinary practices and clinics as well as other companies in the sector. The product range includes around 12,000 items from the areas of veterinary medicines, animal feed and practice supplies.
"Until now, vets have regularly ordered from 20 to 30 suppliers. These processes are very time-consuming, environmentally unfriendly and also prone to errors. Faster ordering processes and less packaging waste are just some of the added values that we can offer through centralized logistics services as part of our expanded business model," explains Dr. Thomas Nonnewitz, the WDT board member responsible for logistics.
The expanded logistics services, which include shipping, invoicing and returns management, will be available from 2021. To this end, WDT is investing in a new 20,000 m² logistics center in Wunstorf near Hanover. The new location will bundle all existing logistics processes and will rely on SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) and the SAP-based CEP Cockpit (Courier, Express & Parcel Services) from Körber.
As Thomas Gries, Chief Executive Officer SAP Solutions at Körber Supply Chain, emphasizes: "Logistics processes continue to increase in complexity. This makes powerful software solutions and proven partnerships all the more important. We have been working with WDT for many years - an excellent basis for moving towards the future together and playing a key role in establishing the expanded business model.
The new logistics center is scheduled to open in spring 2021. WDT plans to invest a total of twelve million euros by 2025, including in a cold store for over 1,000 pallet spaces.
