Cameras & AI combine reality and digital twin - how new technologies are revolutionizing fleet management
From September 27 to 29, the specialist medium materialfluss will be hosting lectures and workshops on the topic of sustainability in intralogistics and logistics as part of the digital networking days and offering space for networking. On September 29, participants can look forward to a presentation on the topic of cameras & AI connecting reality and the digital twin, starting at 11 a.m.
Fleet management systems are designed to achieve maximum efficiency by optimally distributing orders across the available means of transportation. To achieve this, vehicles from a wide range of manufacturers, some of which do not have their own tracking system, must be localized, obstacles, bottlenecks and congestion situations must be detected and loading statuses must be taken into account. Conventional systems require a large number of interfaces and have difficulty accessing environmental information. A new approach is to record the entire work area with very inexpensive cameras. Artificial intelligence can be used to recognize industrial trucks and locate them with centimetre precision. The occupancy level of areas (e.g. bulk areas) and the fill level of buffers (e.g. flow racks) can be recorded. Obstacles, people in the danger zone and bottlenecks are also known globally. All this information flows together in an image of reality, the digital twin. Parallelized algorithms use this to calculate the work tasks and route specifications for all industrial trucks used. This allows efficiency to be increased and vehicles to be optimally utilized. The presentation describes such a system. The technical challenges are described and possible solutions are shown. Experiences, potentials and future developments will be presented based on various customer installations.

The digital networking days are the digital event series of the media brands INDUSTRIAL Production, KUNSTSTOFF MAGAZIN, materialfluss, LABO and Baugewerbe. From September 27 to 29, 2022, they will be dedicated to the topic of "sustainability" with practical presentations, best practice examples and workshops.
From buzzword to indispensable asset: hardly any other industry can influence the development process towards a sustainable society as much as intralogistics and logistics. The ideas of market-relevant companies for clean, efficient and flexible "green" intralogistics are good and available - the digital networking days show the current state of affairs and present products and concepts for green logistics.
