Two-color printing with one print head

In addition to the piezo inkjet printer integra PP 108 for printing on absorbent primary and secondary packaging, Bluhm Systeme has launched the two-color printer integra PP 108 bicolor. The special feature: equipped with a Seiko print head, it prints with two colors but only one print head.

For example, integra PP 108 bicolor can faithfully reproduce two-color company logos or warning symbols. This opens up new application possibilities, particularly for GHS labeling in the chemical industry. Integra PP 108 bicolor prints variable text and data, graphics and logos with font heights of 2 mm to 108 mm, either permanently installed on moving products or mounted on a traversing axis on stationary products, at printing speeds of 150 m/min at 360 dpi, fast and in high resolution. According to the manufacturer, this means that integra PP 108 bicolor prints much faster than comparable printing systems, which only achieve print speeds of 90 m/min at a significantly lower resolution.

The inkjet printer prints with a resolution of 180 dpi per color. The recirculating ink system ensures a consistently good, streak-free print image, even in the event of vibrations: It prevents air from accumulating in the nozzles and ink from moving uncontrollably or drying up. According to the company, no maintenance of the system is required under normal ambient conditions. For long, uninterrupted printing, integra PP 108 bicolor has two internal 500 ml ink tanks - one for each color - which can be refilled during the printing process.

As integra PP 108 bicolor can produce both small and large print images, it is suitable for many labelling tasks, especially for logistics labels on cartons. In this case, its prints can replace an expensive logistics label. The various inks available for the system open up further application possibilities. With inks in red and black, integra PP 108 bicolor is able to print two-color hazard symbols, as required by the CLP regulation. According to the manufacturer, this represents a saving of over 50% compared to expensive hazardous goods labels.

A blue and a green ink are currently available and others are planned. This makes it easy and cost-effective to implement logo prints or mandatory legal markings. This means, for example, that pre-printed cartons or labels no longer need to be kept in stock. As all inks are pigmented, mineral oil-free inks, integra PP 108 bicolor inks can also be used without hesitation for marking in the food industry. With its robust stainless steel housing and IP 40 protection rating, integra PP 108 bicolor is also suitable for harsh production environments.
