Ramps/gates/loading docks

Parcels don't get wet on these ramps

In June, Deutsche Post DHL Group's largest, most modern and most efficient parcel center was put into operation after a lengthy test phase. Koch-Lagertechnik equipped the building with 321 dock shelters.

The building has a floor area of 37,000 square meters and is therefore around one and a half times the size of conventional parcel centers. The U-shaped floor plan is typical of all DHL parcel centers. The two legs are 280 meters long, the front end measures 180 meters. Inside this gigantic building, conveyor belts with a total length of around six kilometers transport the parcels. The addresses are scanned automatically and the parcels are put on the correct route to the transfer point for onward transportation. Over the next few months, the center will be slowly ramped up until a total of 600 people are working there and eventually up to 50,000 parcels will be sorted - every hour!

Protect parcels from rain

A total of 331 loading gates are available. To ensure that the consignments are not only exposed to the weather for a short time during reloading activities and that parcels and especially the machine-readable labels do not get wet, door seals, i.e. ramp weather protection, were installed at the interface between the hall and the truck. As an addition to the building envelope, the door seals also make a significant contribution to a positive energy balance. Draughts are avoided, heating costs are saved and employees are sick less often.

Intra says: Gigantic!

What a great order and vote of confidence for Koch-Lagertechnik: the company recently equipped no fewer than 331 loading gates with its sophisticated ramp weather protection. Not to mention a further 1,800 dock shelters at other Deutsche Post DHL sites. A fine example of fruitful cooperation over a long period of time.

However, these seals are only efficient if they are optimally adapted to the docking vehicles. The width of 3.50 meters, the special depth of 900 millimeters, the height of the front end at 3.7 meters, the length of the head tarpaulin and also the width of the side tarpaulins were precisely coordinated with the operator for the trucks used in this project. For the smaller delivery vehicles, Koch manufactured the dock shelters in the size 2.80 × 2.80 meters with standard depth.

Everything stays tight

The parallel links in the side sections of the dock shelter allow each side to be pressed together at the rear if vehicles are accidentally docked offset to the side. A built-in steel cable with spring system ensures that the side section "comes back" when the truck drives forward again. Pre-formed slats on the rear sides of the side skirts ensure increased contact pressure on the vehicle flanks so that everything around the vehicles remains tight.

Koch-Lagertechnik has been on the market as a manufacturer of door seals for over 40 years. Thanks to flexible production exclusively in Germany, all customer requirements and special dimensions can be catered for. Thanks to the good cooperation with all parties involved, Koch-Lagertechnik has also been able to equip over 30 "mechanical delivery bases" and two DHL Express locations in Germany with more than 1,800 dock shelters.
