AR Racking equips new Lekkerland logistics centers
Lekkerland is the specialist for on-the-go consumption. Lekkerland manages around 51,300 points of sale throughout Germany and employs around 3,140 people. In the 2021 financial year, turnover amounted to around 8.2 billion euros. Since 2020, the company has been part of REWE Group, one of the leading retail and tourism groups in Germany and Europe. In 2021, REWE Group achieved a total external turnover of around 75.3 billion euros. Founded in 1927, REWE Group has more than 384,000 employees and is present in 21 European countries.
Lekkerland is reorganizing its logistics in Germany by 2030 to make it fit for the opportunities and challenges in out-of-home consumption today and tomorrow. As part of this, the storage solutions specialist has supported AR Racking in the opening of two new warehouses in Germany.
Lekkerland sells food and other products to petrol stations, kiosks, retailers, fast-food restaurants and similar outlets. The two new warehouses in Kerpen and Wedemark will help to meet customer requirements in the long term, for example the growing demand for fresh products such as salads and wraps.
Thanks to the storage systems(pallet racking) designed, manufactured and installed by AR Racking, the warehouse in Wedemark has a capacity of 30,954 pallet positions, while the warehouse in Kerpen has 26,505 pallet positions. For the latter, the criteria for an earthquake zone 3 were also taken into account. The racks are designed for Euro pallets weighing up to 1,000 kg, which store chilled and non-chilled products, among other things. "We took Lekkerland's specific needs into account with comprehensive planning for the implementation of the project," explains Roland Fischer, Key Account Manager at AR Racking Germany, adding that "all requirements were implemented on time and to Lekkerland's satisfaction by the entire AR Germany team".
In some areas, frames with three uprights have also been installed, which are equipped with roller conveyors in front for order picking. The industrial racking installed by AR Racking reaches a height of up to 10 meters in various racking configurations and has up to 6 levels. The aisles between the racks have a width of 3.5 meters.
According to Robert Kosmol, Manager Corporate Real Estate Development at Lekkerland, "we have set ourselves the goal of investing in a highly versatile and adaptable infrastructure that allows us to optimize space without losing flexibility in order to increase our stock and improve inventory control in the picking area. The quality of the racking, the integral project management and the constant communication with AR Racking have given us added value in the installation of these two new warehouses".
