ProfiDAT, which is already established on the market, is used successfully in container handling, overhead cranes and intralogistics applications. ProfiDATcompact is a much smaller and more flexible version and the latest release meets the specific requirements of the automotive industry.

"ProfiDATcompact is a slotted waveguide system for continuous data transmission between a local network and mobile consumers moving along a rail," explains Nico Knab, Product Manager at Conductix-Wampfler in Weil am Rhein. "The data is transmitted between a stationary and a mobile antenna. The antenna on the mobile unit is guided via sliding contacts on the slotted waveguide profile and protrudes into the slotted waveguide without contact. The profile is installed along the conductor rail, parallel to the energy-carrying conductor rail system." ProfiDATcompact combines three functions that previously had to be covered by different devices: it ensures reliable data transmission, serves as a protective conductor and can be expanded to include an optical positioning system.

"The aim was to optimize our already successfully established ProfiDAT system for new target groups," explains Knab. "The challenge in developing ProfiDATcompact was to design a compact system without compromising on data transmission." The dimensions of the system have been significantly reduced in comparison. ProfiDATcompact is therefore
more flexible than its predecessor: it is also suitable for applications with curves, lifts and transitions. It is characterized by a low interference potential with other wireless systems. For example, ProfiDATcompact can be used for automated storage and retrieval machines, shuttles, transfer cars, sorters or electric monorail systems
