The era of the three-spoke cranes comes to an end
Lufthansa Cargo's last MD-11F landed in Frankfurt on October 17. Flight LH8161 from New York (JFK) touched down on runway 07R on time at 12:03 local time. It marks the end of the era of three-engine aircraft in the Lufthansa Group. The MD-11F aircraft type had been in service with Lufthansa Cargo for more than 23 years. The decisive factor for the introduction of the MD-11F at the end of the nineties was its significantly better fuel efficiency compared to the wide-body freighter previously used. In future, the company will use the twin-engine Boeing 777F for the same reason. The three-engine aircraft was given a fitting send-off when it landed with a water arch from the Frankfurt Airport fire department.
