Wissing appoints coordinator and commissioner for rail, logistics and charging stations
The Federal Cabinet has approved the appointment of the Federal Government Commissioner for Rail Transport and the Federal Government Coordinator for Freight Transport and Logistics proposed by Federal Minister Volker Wissing.
Michael Theurer, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Affairs, is the new Federal Government Commissioner for Rail Transport. Among other things, the Commissioner is responsible for developing an overall strategic concept for the railways. He is the interface for coordination with stakeholders from politics, business and administration and is to advocate for the interests of rail transport both within and outside the federal government.
Michael Theurer: The office of Rail Transport Commissioner of the Federal Government is both an obligation and an honor for me. I would like to contribute to the realization of the ambitious goals of the coalition agreement in rail policy as a core element of climate-friendly mobility. I will discuss the rapid implementation of the measures in the rail transport master plan with the Zukunftsbündnis Schiene in the near future. Capacity, quality and customer orientation are the key elements for more attractive rail transport. The implementation of the Deutschlandtakt and a program for rapid capacity expansion based on it are the key instruments for this. We want to make rapid use of the potential offered by the digitalization of rail operations and infrastructure. At the same time, I will also ensure that more efficient and transparent structures at DB AG create the right balance between public service-oriented infrastructure and competitive transport services so that we can all derive even greater benefit from rail.
Oliver Luksic, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Affairs, is the Federal Government's new Coordinator for Freight Transport and Logistics. The coordinator is the federal government's central point of contact for the German logistics sector and is committed to its interests.
Oliver Luksic: Efficient logistics is both the backbone of our economy and the basis for security of supply. This is particularly true for Germany as an export nation at the heart of Europe. Together with the entire industry, I will therefore work towards a modern, competitive transport industry. My goal is to promote the digitalization and intermodality of logistics. I am also committed to a policy that combines climate protection, technical innovation and economic success.
The appointments were confirmed by the cabinet on January 12. Federal Minister Volker Wissing has also appointed a Commissioner for Charging Station Infrastructure in the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport for the first time. Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Daniela Kluckert is to coordinate and prioritize the expansion of the charging infrastructure in the BMDV.
Daniela Kluckert: The future of private transportation lies in electromobility. In order to convince people of the attractiveness of electromobility, charging electric cars must become easier and faster - just as with conventional combustion engines, refueling must be possible everywhere and barrier-free in a short space of time. We must and want to make progress here - in order to achieve our own climate protection targets and so that our companies have a strong domestic market. This is the only way we can remain world mobility champions and the only way we can ensure affordable mobility for everyone in the future. I would like to do all I can to achieve this.
