DB Schenker positions itself for the future

Two top international managers are joining the Management Board. Dutchman Hessel Verhage, pictured, who is driving the company's further development as Executive Vice President "Global Strategy and Transformation" at Schenker, is joining the top management team. On November 1, he will also take over the Contract Logistics division. The Dane Jakob Wegge-Larsen, 45, previously Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of the "Ocean & Logistics" business unit at the Danish Maersk Group, has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer by the Schenker Supervisory Board and will start on March 1, 2023.

Oliver Seidl, 59, will remain responsible for Schenker's finance department until December 31, 2022. Seidl, who holds a degree in business administration and has worked for Schenker since the end of 2016, will leave the company at the beginning of 2023 on the best of terms and at his own request in order to devote himself to a new phase of his life with other tasks.

"With the new Management Board team, Schenker is positioning itself for the global changes in the logistics industry, which require constant further development of the business. For the Schenker team and the customers, the strengthening of the Management Board with two proven international logistics experts is very good news," said Dr. Levin Holle, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Schenker AG.

Jochen Thewes, CEO of Schenker AG, emphasized: "Our two new Management Board colleagues Hessel Verhage and Jakob Wegge-Larsen will use their experience and innovative spirit to continue Schenker's excellent development in the future. I am very much looking forward to their impulses and initiatives."

As the new CEO, Verhage will assume responsibility for an experienced contract logistics team. Initially, he will also remain Chief Transformation Officer in a dual role. He joined DB Schenker in August 2019 as Chief Executive Officer for the Americas region. There he was responsible for business in 24 countries in North, Central and South America. At the beginning of 2022, he was promoted to head of the global strategy and transformation unit.
Verhage has more than 26 years of experience in the freight forwarding and logistics business. Before joining Schenker, he was, among other things, CEO of "STG Holdings" and was responsible for eight acquisitions in America for the holding company.

With over 20 years of international expertise, including positions in Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Singapore and Hamburg, Wegge-Larsen is also a manager with industry experience. After four years at the management consultancy EY, he worked for more than 20 years at three different global shipping and logistics companies as CFO or part of the finance management team. This includes stages as Business CFO at Maersk Line Operations (March 2014 to November 2017), as CFO and Vice President at Hamburg Süd, an acquisition of A.P. Moller-Maersk (December 2017 to February 2020) and, since March 2020, as CFO for Maersk Ocean & Logistics, Maersk's largest division with a turnover of 49 billion euros in 2021.

Seidl, Schenker's CFO until the end of December, said: "After the sixth record result in a row in Schenker's 150-year history and the successful strategic realignment of the finance department and the entire company, now is the right time to hand over responsibility to new hands. In the future, I will focus more on working with young entrepreneurs and supporting them in their development."

The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Schenker AG, Dr. Levin Holle, emphasized: "The Schenker Supervisory Board would like to expressly thank Oliver Seidl for his very successful work and his great commitment. With his proven expertise, he has strategically and organizationally realigned the finance division over the past six years and established a global management concept for the entire Schenker Group. He is handing over a well-tended field. We wish Oliver Seidl all the best for his future professional and private life."

The CEO of Schenker AG, Jochen Thewes, added: "Over the past six years, I have worked very closely and trustingly with Oliver and would like to thank him on behalf of the entire Management Board for his outstanding commitment. Together we have transformed Schenker from a pure financial holding company into a powerful, globally managed company. Schenker AG is thus well positioned to meet the strategic challenges of the market."

In addition to the core areas of Controlling, Accounting and Treasury, Seidl has also been responsible for Direct Purchasing, Real Estate, Financial Strategy and the two Shared Service Centers in Manila and Bucharest since 2016.
