Energy from Li-Ion batteries
Steel strapping tools with battery operation
Landsberg-based packaging specialist Kemapack is launching the OR-TR19 and OR-TR32, the world's first battery-powered steel strapping tools.
Until now, steel strapping tools have mostly been operated pneumatically - with all the known disadvantages: "The air pressure hoses create dangerous tripping hazards, there are always production downtimes due to leaking hoses and connections, daily maintenance work is necessary and the very heavy tools are very expensive," reports Reinhard Scheuermann, owner of Landsberg-based packaging specialist Kemapack, adding: "In addition, the generation of compressed air is very costly and energy-intensive. Pneumatically operated strapping tools are certainly not the ideal solution in the current situation."
As a sensible alternative, his company is now launching the OR-TR series, the world's first steel strapping tools that are powered by Li-Ion batteries.
Two models - two performance classes
The high-performance devices are anything but "just another" battery-powered packaging machine. They set new standards in terms of repeat accuracy and process reliability thanks to their electronic control system. They are suitable for both mobile and stationary use and are manufactured to be particularly robust for tough working conditions. They can even withstand falls from low heights onto concrete floors.
The technical data of the new devices is also worth noting: The OR-TR19 model has a tensioning force of between 400 and 3,000 N, a tensioning speed of 135 mm/s and can process steel straps with widths of 13, 16 and 19 mm. The straps are locked using a single notch. The "big brother" OR-TR32 is even more powerful and therefore also allows the strapping of larger packaged goods. Its tensioning force is between 2,000 and 7,000 N at a tensioning speed of 75 mm/s. The small "powerhouse" can process steel strap widths of 19 mm, 25 mm and 32 mm. The OR-TR32 is closed via a double notch in the steel strap.
The electronically controlled strapping process guarantees very precise implementation of the tension and seal settings on both appliance versions. Detailed information about these processes and the load status of the appliances is provided by the clearly laid out touch display, which can be operated safely even when wearing safety gloves.
Always "full power"
The two new steel band tools draw their power from a maintenance-free 18 V Li-ion battery that can be recharged at any time. The associated "intelligent" charger actively monitors the battery temperature and charge indication. Up to 500 strappings are possible with one battery charge. The display provides the user with information about the remaining charge. "With the new OR-TR series, we are launching particularly lightweight devices onto the market that will noticeably relieve the strain on employees in companies in their daily work. With the ergonomically well-balanced machines, which fit perfectly in the hand, they can now strap goods wherever they are. What's more, there is no longer any need to fiddle with the compressed air hose or generate costly and energy-intensive compressed air," summarizes Kemapack Managing Director Reinhard Scheuermann.
