The PWR-S77 self-propelled stretch robot from Kemapack is in use at a specialist for solar energy systems. Compared to manual film packaging, it saves time and material. It also causes less damage to the goods.

René Walter, sales representative at packaging specialist Kemapack from Landsberg am Lech, received a request for a flexible and efficient alternative to the manual packaging of picked pallets. Previously, the customer from the solar energy sector had used a mechanical solution for stretch wrapping. However, this required a lot of working time. In addition, there were repeated complaints because the goods were damaged during transportation due to inadequate packaging. The customer is now using the PWR-S77 self-propelled stretch robot, a new product from Kemapack that is tailored to the requirements of medium-sized companies.

Not tied to a fixed location

In total, the solar technology specialist packs around 50 to 60 pallets of different sizes every day after picking. The PWR-S77 is ideal for this volume. The pallets are assembled at various picking stations distributed throughout the warehouse. The PWR-S77 always works exactly where it is needed. This avoids bottlenecks that often occur in front of stationary stretch wrappers. In addition to the PWR-S77's high packing autonomy and working flexibility, René Walter emphasizes its flexibility in handling different pallet shapes, sizes and weights. The PWR-S77 also wraps oversized, bulky, unevenly packed or unstable pallets, as is often the case at the solar specialist, easily and reliably. This means that any parts can be wrapped and prepared for safe transportation, regardless of their location.

The new version of the "Cube Technology" enables the user to reduce film consumption. Consumption and pre-stretching are precisely controlled. Depending on the film type, film stretching of up to 500 percent is possible. "I can set this value individually on the PWR-S77," explains Walter. "This is particularly useful if I have differently packed pallets - like at our solar technology dealer, for example. With very asymmetrical pallets, I adjust the film stretch individually per layer to the packaged goods. This prevents the film from tearing and reduces film consumption. If, on the other hand, I am packing heavy goods, I generally work with a high film stretch to save material." In this way, the packaging robot helps to save material and costs.

Economical and user-friendly

The one-piece, brushless drive motor with 90 amp-hour batteries is also environmentally friendly and energy-saving. With fully charged batteries and thanks to a resource-saving energy-saving mode, the PWR-S77 can wrap around 250 pallets. The drive motor is also quiet and low-maintenance, as no brushes need to be replaced. The user can operate the robot easily thanks to the logically structured control system with touchpad, LED status display and LED battery level indicator. The color 7-inch touchscreen with swipe function displays the most common settings via the quick drop-down menu.

The PVS carriage is also user-friendly, as the pre-stretching can be set from 0 to 500 percent. The ILS (Instant Load System) film system ensures easy threading of the film and enables an S-shaped film run, which increases the necessary adhesion and ensures perfect pre-stretching.

The PWR-S77 draws its energy from either acid, gel or dry batteries; lithium batteries are also available as an option for quick and easy intermediate charging. The exchangeable battery can be moved either by crane, forklift or pallet truck.

The manufacturer has also thought about safety: the PWR-S77 is equipped with a "BlueSpot"; it shines on the ground a few meters in front of the machine in the direction of travel and alerts passers-by to the presence and operation of the machine. Should unintentional contact between man and machine nevertheless occur, the sensor system built into the housing switches the stretch robot off quickly and safely. Design features prevent clothing or body parts from getting caught and provide overrun protection.
