Martin Schrüfer,

How time flies

In the last issue, materialfluss, the specialist intralogistics magazine, celebrated its 50th birthday. We were delighted by the numerous congratulations and encouraged to continue living up to the motto of the anniversary year, "Tradition meets innovation".

However, time flies - if you compare the products shown in the anniversary section with the manufacturers' current highlights, this becomes obvious. Intralogistics is traditionally strong in Germany, with many companies that are world market leaders, who have repeatedly pushed the boundaries of what is possible with innovations in recent decades. If, for example, 300,000 parcels are sorted or dispatched in a single day in a parcel center in Germany, the sheer scale of this figure illustrates what is required "behind the scenes" in terms of technology and software. We're talking about 208 parcels per minute, in case you don't have a calculator to hand.

Before the final spurt of 2019, we still have two issues of materialfluss ahead of us: this one focuses on the topic of logistics software and uses several examples to highlight the importance of software for interaction in the warehouse. Here too, innovation is not the exception, but the rule.

In the special edition materialfluss WORLD OF INTRALOGISTICS, the curtain is finally raised: the nominees for the materialfluss PRODUCT OF THE YEAR introduce themselves. There is a lot to discover in the 14 categories, I can promise you that today. The issue will be published on December 13 and voting will be open from then on.

There is also good news to report from the editorial team: Our colleague Marvin Meyke successfully completed his traineeship at the end of October. Fortunately, he will continue to support materialfluss - now as a newly qualified editor.

Best regards
