Marvin Meyke,

Editorial: What comes after Corona?

Even if it will still take some time before the coronavirus pandemic is over, I am encouraged by the largely well thought-out approach to the virus: numerous companies are adapting to the new conditions, some are resuming production or are even participating in the production of respiratory masks, ventilators and other urgently needed goods.

These developments and the first easing of lockdown restrictions in Germany (as of the editorial deadline at the end of April) raise the question: What happens after Corona? The pandemic has once again highlighted the weaknesses of a globalized economy. As Intra writes in her column, it is still possible to do without "blueberries from Burundi" for a while, but the lack of medicines from China quickly becomes serious. Will global just-in-time production, as futurologist Matthias Horx puts it, be "dismantled and reconfigured" after the coronavirus crisis? Using the crisis to rethink and improve processes that are taken for granted would certainly be desirable.

This issue of materialfluss focuses on the processes that modern storage and racking systems can make more efficient. We hope you enjoy browsing through it.

Best wishes and stay healthy!

Yours
