VDR welcomes appointment of Dieter Janecek

The German Shipowners' Association (VDR) welcomes the appointment of Dieter Janecek (Alliance 90/The Greens) as the Federal Government's Maritime Coordinator.

Dr. Martin Kröger, Managing Director of the VDR: "We are delighted that Dieter Janecek, a very well-connected politician who is well versed in economic policy, is taking on the position of Maritime Coordinator, which is so important for our shipping location. Major challenges lie ahead of us: the future climate-neutral operation of our ships, maintaining and expanding the competitiveness of Germany as a shipping location, ensuring a steady supply of goods, raw materials and energy to Germany by sea,
and, of course, recruiting qualified young talent for our shipping companies. Securing the long-term success and strength of German maritime shipping requires courageous, creative and coordinated economic policy decisions in political Berlin. The Office of the Maritime Coordinator has a key role to play here."

Janecek has been a member of the Bundestag for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen since 2013 and is currently their economic policy spokesperson. He is a member of the Committee on Economic Affairs and a deputy member of the Committee on Climate Protection and Energy and the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment.
