epas supplies Hohe See and Albatros offshore wind farms
The EnBW Hohe See and Albatros offshore wind farms together currently form the largest offshore wind farm project in Germany. Ems Ports Agency & Stevedoring GmbH & Co. KG has now been awarded the contract for the port logistics of the two wind farms.
The EnBW Hohe See wind farm is located 95 kilometers north of Borkum and around 95 kilometers west of Helgoland, and Albatros is being built in the immediate vicinity. epas, a specialist in offshore logistics, has been awarded the contract for the entire handling of port logistics during the operating phase of the two offshore wind farms following a tendering process. The project is due to start at the beginning of September with an expected term of five years, plus two further annual options.
The main tasks include the loading and unloading of SOVs (Service Operation Vessels) with direct quayside handling and transfer to and from the warehouse, container, passenger and material transportation, as well as customs clearance by epas' own customs department. In addition, two flexible Liebherr cranes in the Tandenhub enable the loading of packages weighing up to 240 kilograms, and storage facilities round off the service package. One of the decisive factors in awarding the contract to the company was the extensive certifications required in the offshore industry and held by epas.
"We are delighted to have been awarded the contract and the trust placed in us, and are proud that we were able to beat the competition with our portfolio of services and our experience in offshore logistics and win EnBW as another strong partner alongside TenneT from last year," says Heinrich Smidt, Managing Director of epas.
