Logistics service providers
St. Franziskus-Stiftung Münster and Fiege open hospital logistics center
During a one-year construction period, around 1,800 square meters of warehouse space with almost 1,200 pallet spaces over a height of more than ten meters and an additional 400 square meters of state-of-the-art office and social space were created. Around 3.8 million euros were invested.

"Today impressively underlines how much professional expertise, comprehensive services and economic efficiency the MOC offers the affiliated hospitals, long-term care facilities and doctors' practices," said Dr. Klaus Goedereis, Chairman of the Board of St. Franziskus-Stiftung Münster, at the opening. The extension documents the success of the Medical Order Center concept, which guarantees highly qualified care from a single source for its customers in the healthcare sector. The extension also represents a commitment to the Ahlen location, which has proven to be an excellent choice from the outset.
Unique selling point in the healthcare sector
At the same time, he expressed his appreciation to the 270 employees of the MOC. They are the ones who made the success story of the center, which the foundation operates in cooperation with logistics expert Fiege, possible in the first place. Its working methods attract the attention of hospital operators from all over Germany and Europe. Trade visitors even come from the USA. "The MOC radiates far beyond Ahlen and the Münsterland region," says Dr. Goedereis.
The Medical Order Center is the largest center for external supply. "It was the first of its kind and is still a unique selling point in the healthcare industry", said Felix Fiege, member of the board of Fiege Logistik. "The MOC shows that two courageous pioneers of hospital logistics were successful", Felix Fiege continued. The two companies worked together in a spirit of partnership and trust, as Fiege emphasized: "For us in Westphalia, the spoken word counts. As a company, we have always been able to rely on the word of the St. Franziskus Foundation and vice versa, of course." This should be maintained in the future, as should the courage to break new ground. "We are a driver of innovation in the logistics sector and want to shape new projects together with the St. Franziskus Foundation", said Felix Fiege. In the near future, for example, electric vehicles will be used for the shorter distances to nearby hospitals.
Leading in the field of hospital logistics
Georg Rosenbaum, Managing Director and Center Manager of the MOC, reviewed the development of the logistics center since it was founded in 2001. In the meantime, the center has achieved a leading position throughout Germany in the field of hospital logistics. The turnover of the MOC with its two locations in Ahlen and Bochum has increased almost tenfold since 2001, and individual services for medical products for hospitals have also been developed. Over the past 16 years, not only has the MOC itself developed further, but also the internal infrastructure of the clinics it supplies. The basket module system, operation-specific tracing, pharmaceutical admissions in the clinics on site and many other consulting services in the areas of hospital pharmacy, sterilization and goods trading have sustainably intensified customer relationships.
In a welcoming address, Ahlen's mayor Dr. Alexander Berger began by emphasizing the considerable economic importance of the logistics center for the location. Professor Dr. Hubert Otten from the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences emphasized that the MOC contributes significantly to standardization and rationalization and thus offers the affiliated hospitals considerable savings potential.
