Customers of all sizes rely on Gebrüder Weiss to transport their shipments quickly, safely and undamaged to their destination. To ensure this and make the entire logistics chain traceable, the service provider relies on comprehensive video surveillance in its logistics centers, which is regularly updated to the latest state of the art.

At its largest distribution center in Maria Lanzendorf near Vienna, the company has just expanded its existing solution with almost 500 Sony cameras and Milestone's video management software (VMS) to include 33 additional Sony SNC-VM772R 4K cameras. The aim of the project was to ensure greater security as well as comprehensive parcel tracking and to be able to trace any damage. The new cameras are primarily used to monitor the reloading of larger trailers into smaller trucks. They cover the actual reloading area as well as the inside of the trailers and the conveyor belts.

The Sony SNC-VM772R has a large CMOS sensor that enables 4K resolution with good image quality and depth of field, even in difficult lighting conditions. A robust design and integrated image stabilization ensure smooth and clear video images despite vibrations, dust and exhaust fumes from passing trucks. The cameras have been installed in such a way that the entire reloading area is captured at all times and vehicles or pallets cannot create any blind spots. In addition, each of the new cameras can track several objects simultaneously - in either VGA or Full HD. The 20 megapixel image sensor of the SNC-VM772R enables still images - so-called evidence shots - even in a higher resolution than 4K, so that even the smallest details can be viewed up close. The Sony solution therefore represented an alternative to multiple PTZ cameras (pan/tilt/zoom) or multi-sensor systems for Gebrüder Weiss.

The installation and integration into the existing environment was carried out by Sony partner ÖWD Österreichischer Wachdienst Security & Services. With currently 2,800 employees, ÖWD is one of the largest security companies in Austria and is represented throughout the country with a 24/7 technical on-call team.

"We have been using Sony cameras there since the opening of our largest terminal in the world in Maria Lanzendorf in 2006," says Werner Drnec, Operations Manager at Gebrüder Weiss, Maria Lanzendorf. "Both the image quality and the reliability, with failure rates close to zero, have always exceeded our expectations, and in the current project they also came out on top in a direct comparison. The growing trust in the brand and the simple and seamless integration into our existing environment also spoke in favor of Sony."
