RoX research project: Fiege involved as a partner

The aim of the RoX research program is to promote the use of AI-based robotics solutions in practical applications and industries. The logistics service provider Fiege is one of the consortium partners of the joint project funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).

Fiege participates in the new RoX project. The consortium of companies from industry and science has set itself the task of creating a digital ecosystem in order to shorten the innovation cycles of AI and robotics components and facilitate their application in practice.

AI robotics as a means to combat the labor shortage

Kenza Ait Si Abbou, board member and CTO at Fiege, explains: "The use of AI-based robotics offers considerable potential - not only for the logistics industry - especially in view of the increasing labor shortage. However, the high complexity of such systems makes it difficult for individual market players to build up the necessary expertise. We have therefore decided to join forces with other companies from industry and research in order to identify current needs and practical use cases and jointly develop transferable solutions for these problems."

The central application areas include loading and unloading processes along the entire logistics chain, picking processes in unstructured environments, multifunctional and location-flexible robot systems in production and the AI-based commissioning of robot systems. The RoX project focuses on the integration of practice-oriented solutions in development and application environments, the provision of quality-assured software modules and AI models as well as the design of semantic models and meta-data structures. Data security of the robotics ecosystem and networking with international initiatives are an integral part of the efforts. Contract logistics expert Fiege will contribute its expertise primarily to the order picking sub-project and provide real test environments in its logistics centers.
