Pasta for southern Germany: DB Schenker transports for ALDI
Supply secured: DB Schenker is providing ALDI with short-term support in the procurement of several hundred tons of pasta for over 650 of the discounter's stores in southern Germany.
Spread over more than 500 Euro pallets, the freight from production is collected from the manufacturer in Italy and transported to Germany in a supply chain of trucks and freight trains. The first 300 or so pallets with a total of around 400,000 packs of pasta have now arrived at DB Schenker Transa's railport in Nuremberg.
Christian Drenthen, Member of the Management Board for Land Transport at DB Schenker: "We maintain the flow of goods in Europe and worldwide. We manage this around the clock and at all times. But the current corona pandemic in particular shows the relevance of stable supply chains. Logistics keeps the world running. With our short-term pasta transport for ALDI from Italy to southern Germany, we ensure that empty supermarket shelves are replenished quickly."
In international overland transport, goods shipments are still allowed to cross European borders despite the coronavirus crisis. Lisa Klonk, European Regional Account Manager at DB Schenker, is coordinating the current pasta deliveries: "We are still fully operational because we rely on a network of over 430 land transport locations in 38 countries in Europe alone. This is paying off during the crisis, as we can now react flexibly to current restrictions and, if necessary, reroute transports so that they always reach the customer."
