New joint venture for parcel transportation
Gebrüder Weiss founds the joint venture "Gebrüder Weiss Express China" with the Chinese logistics company Global Freight System, which specializes in parcel transport between China and Europe. Gebrüder Weiss holds 65 percent of the shares in the joint venture based in Shanghai.
"Due to the growth in online trade, parcel shipments between Asia and Europe are also increasing continuously," says Lothar Thoma, Member of the Management Board at Gebrüder Weiss. "We are now pooling our expertise in Europe and Asia and are addressing both Asian and European e-commerce companies with this new service."
With the establishment of the joint venture, Gebrüder Weiss is strengthening its activities on the New Silk Road. The company operates branches and offices at 19 important transportation hubs in the Greater China region and is also present with its own locations in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia and Armenia. Gebrüder Weiss services on and along the Silk Road include air and sea freight, rail and multimodal transportation as well as special logistics solutions including warehouse logistics, local distribution - and now also parcel transportation.
