Company figures
Gebrüder Weiss remains on course for growth
Gebrüder Weiss can look back on a successful 2019: the transport and logistics company further expanded its market position in Europe, the USA and Asia and once again invested extensively.
With an increase of two percent, the company generated preliminary net sales of 1.7 billion euros in the past financial year (2018: 1.67 billion euros). "2019 was a good year. Despite difficult conditions, we developed positively in all business areas and were able to successfully implement new technologies for increased customer benefits and more efficient processes. We are particularly pleased with the demand in the Home Delivery division, where we achieved double-digit growth," summarizes Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss.
The equity ratio also increased and is now over 60% (2018: 58%). With consolidated turnover of EUR 1.15 billion, the Land Transportation and Logistics division increased its turnover by 2.1% compared to the previous year. A key driver here was the increasing demand in the home delivery sector. Around 1.1 million white goods, furniture and TV sets were delivered to end customers in Austria and Eastern Europe. With 385,000 shipments in Austria, the company says it has once again confirmed its market leadership there (2018: 335,000).
Air and sea freight also increased by 1.3% to 380 million euros. The tense market situation in air freight was compensated for by increased shipment volumes in sea freight. Gebrüder Weiss achieved growth above all in transpacific and transatlantic transports and further expanded its market share in the USA.
DPD Austria, of which Gebrüder Weiss Parcel Service is a co-partner, was once again able to strengthen its market position: The DPD Austria system moved a total of 52 million parcels, which corresponds to an increase of around three percent compared to the previous year.
