Following the acquisition of Panalpina Welttransport Holding AG by DSV A/S in August 2019 and the global transition to the holding company DSV Panalpina A/S, the German companies have now also been legally merged. DSV is represented in Germany with three divisions, which are divided into the business areas of air and sea freight (DSV Air & Sea), land transportation (DSV Road) and contract logistics (DSV Solutions) - this structure will be continued jointly under the previous management.

rank Sobotka, Managing Director of DSV Air & Sea GmbH, Peter Fog-Petersen, Managing Director of DSV Road GmbH, Bart Peeters, Managing Director of DSV Solutions GmbH and Nicolai Knudsen, Managing Director of Finance, form the management team of the German DSV Group. "We are very much looking forward to the future together with our new colleagues. The merger with a successful traditional company like Panalpina is a great stroke of luck for us - together we can offer our customers even more," comments Frank Sobotka.

On a global level, the acquisition of Panalpina makes DSV one of the largest forwarding and logistics companies with a pro forma turnover of around DKK 118 billion (EUR 16 billion) and 60,000 employees in 90 countries. In Germany, DSV is taking over one of the strongest national companies in the Panalpina network, increasing its workforce by around 2,000 new employees to a total of over 6,000.

A large part of Panalpina's business will be transferred to the Danish logistics company's air and sea freight division - DSV Air & Sea plans to transport 300,000 TEU of sea freight and 290,000 tons of air freight in Germany. New locations are also being added in Dresden, Kassel, Kehl, Weiterstadt and Bad Waldsee. Existing branches in economically strong regions such as Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Munich will be expanded, with all German locations increasing in size. In addition, DSV Air & Sea will use Panalpina's warehousing and handling facilities in Hamburg for the handling of general cargo shipments in the LCL and Buyers Consolidation segments, thus serving customers from its own network.

Cross-selling potential is now to be exploited to a greater extent, from which the Road Division in particular will benefit, especially as Panalpina customers previously had to be served mainly outside the network. DSV Road is also opening new branches: in Nuremberg, local customers will in future be offered the handling of national and international part and full loads as well as international general cargo shipments. The 10,000 m² warehouse at the Nuremberg site offers sufficient space for goods handling and order picking.

Capacity will also be expanded in the area of warehouse logistics. The existing Panalpina logistics centers in Düsseldorf,
Munich, Weiterstadt, Neu-Isenburg and Neuenstadt am Kocher, with a total of over 60,000 m² of warehouse space, complement the Solutions division's portfolio and ensure broader coverage in the regions. In Weiterstadt, it is also possible to store pharmaceutical/healthcare products in a refrigerated facility with two temperature zones (2-8°C, 15-25°C) and thus further develop this area of business.
