Logistics service provider
BLG upgrades combine harvester for delivery in Europe
Starting with unloading from the container ship, through handling at the terminal to comprehensive technical services, BLG Logistics now also offers the complete logistics package for high-and-heavy goods in the port from a single source. Together with Eurogate and BLG Auto-Tec, combine harvesters weighing several tons are currently being unloaded, inspected and prepared for delivery to customers throughout Europe.
Like rocks in the surf, the agricultural machines weighing several tons rise up from the sea of cars at the BLG Auto-Terminal Bremerhaven. There is space for around 70,000 cars on the 295-hectare site. Between them, there are more and more eleven-ton trucks intended for use in agriculture. A tranche of more than 200 Claas combine harvesters is currently being unloaded, handled and technically processed at the BLG Auto-Terminal Bremerhaven.
The complete logistics package from a single source
BLG Logistics is responsible for the entire handling process, from the arrival of the ship to technical processing and preparation for onward transportation of the vehicles. The combine harvesters arrive at the port of Bremerhaven in open containers, so-called flat racks. After unloading from the container ship by BLG subsidiary Eurogate, the machines are prepared for their onward journey by the high and heavy experts at BLG Auto-Terminal Bremerhaven.
The wheels are fitted directly on the quay. The agricultural machinery is then taken to BLG's own Auto-Tec technical center. Europe's largest car workshop is located directly in the port. The technical services include pre-delivery inspection (PDI), cleaning and quality control as well as painting and conversion work if required. Depending on customer requirements, the vehicles are equipped with GPS receivers or anti-theft devices.
The handling of heavy cargo is a mainstay of the port industry. With a handling volume of around 1.2 million tons of high and heavy goods per year, the BLG Auto-Terminal Bremerhaven is already one of the largest RoRo terminals of its kind in Europe. Last year, the area for heavy cargo handling was expanded by leasing a new area, known as the southern port "Roter Hafen", which covers a total of 60,000 square meters. By expanding the area, BLG Logistics has laid an important foundation for future projects in the high and heavy segment.
