BLG starts operations at PUMA's European logistics center
"The fact that we are celebrating the go-live of this facility today and have kept to the schedule despite the pandemic is based on the joint efforts of many dedicated and passionate colleagues from a wide range of trades. We all have one thing in common: our heart beats for logistics," says Frank Dreeke, Chairman of the Board of Management of BLG Logistics Group AG & Co.
Over 22 kilometers of conveyor technology were installed on 116,000 square meters of floor space and 63,000 square meters of warehouse space in order to move up to 74 million items with 480 shuttle vehicles. The goods are stored in over 700,000 container spaces. The fully air-conditioned building has 36 loading gates and 141 truck bays. 350 jobs have been created at BLG Logistics in the new logistics center.
As the overall project manager, BLG Logistics is responsible for the realization and commissioning - starting with the design and construction of the intralogistics and ending with the commissioning of this unique project. Together with the IT specialist Körber, BLG developed the logistics processes precisely to meet the needs of the renowned sports company PUMA and implemented them in its own warehouse management system.
The logistics center was developed in accordance with strict sustainability guidelines that specifically improve energy efficiency and environmental compatibility. All project partners are aiming for the recognized international sustainability seal for real estate, the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification.
An in-house photovoltaic system will supply the building with certified green electricity in future. A rainwater harvesting system and energy-saving LED lighting will also be used. There are also plans to plant 400 trees on the 116,000 square meter site.
After today's launch, the logistics center will gradually start operations. This process is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
