The logistics service provider has now put the finishing touches to the plant in Tübingen with an automated small parts warehouse (AKL). Small components required for the production of gear motors are now stored in the 23,000 container AutoStore system by 13 robots and picked as required. The state-of-the-art solution offers higher capacity and storage density, reduces the error rate in order picking and thus saves time and costs. One of the biggest advantages of the AutoStore, in addition to compressed storage, is its adaptability to the structural restrictions of existing buildings and the ability to expand the performance of the system at a later date. Craiss set up the compact small parts picking system on just 650 square meters. The scalable solution currently has 13 robots. These automatically store the small parts required in the plant, such as screws, shafts and plastic parts, in one of the 23,000 bins measuring 600 x 400 x 200 millimetres in total, rearrange them in the depths of the grid depending on the turnover rate and transport them to one of five carousel ports for further picking when called upon. Site manager Andreas Hofmeister can already see a significant increase in order processing performance after just a few months. The logistics processes have been considerably streamlined and accelerated. The error rate is also close to zero.
