A red spruce for Berlin

Heavy-duty expert creates Christmas spirit in Berlin

Berlin's most spectacular Christmas tree has arrived at its place in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Once again this year, the heavy-duty specialists from Universal Transport were responsible for delivering the Christmas tree. They brought the red spruce, which is around 18 meters tall and weighs 3 tons, from Thuringia to the capital on time and undamaged on 22 November. There it will create a festive atmosphere in front of the Berlin landmark during the Advent season.

Securely lashed down on the loading area, the Christmas tree set off on its 300 km journey from Rudolstadt in Thuringia. After four hours on the road, numerous passers-by and tourists were able to watch the tree arrive live at the Brandenburg Gate. Later that evening, the tree was unloaded as usual by a THW team and securely fastened in the designated ground socket on Pariser Platz. It will then be decorated with fairy lights and baubles over the next few days in order to shine in Christmas splendor in time for the first Advent.

"Christmas trees may not be the most demanding cargo we transport, and certainly not the heaviest - but they are one of the most beautiful, because we bring a little joy and light into the cold season," says Holger Dechant, Managing Director of the Universal Transport Group. "For years, we have been able to ring in the Christmas season in Berlin with our transports. We wish everyone lots of joy with the tree and a peaceful Advent season."

Like the trees from previous years, the red spruce for Christmas 2021 comes from private property in Thuringia. The tree had already been felled, loaded and secured there on the previous Saturday. Due to the Sunday driving ban, the truck was then temporarily parked on the premises of a partner freight forwarder of Universal Transport and left Thuringia for Berlin on Monday morning.
