Amazon builds in Giengen

Starting signal for the construction of the distribution center for Amazon in Giengen an der Brenz: A symbolic ground-breaking ceremony has now officially marked the start of the project, which is of great importance for the town in the district of Heidenheim. Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH and the Honold Logistik Group are jointly developing a logistics property with a hall area of around 5,800 square meters for the world's largest online retailer. There will also be 2,000 square meters for offices and social rooms. Completion is planned for April next year.

The property is the first to be built in the "Giengen Industrial Park A7 (GIP A7)". The 40-hectare industrial estate is located directly on the Autobahn 7, which connects Würzburg with Ulm and is one of the most important north-south routes in Germany. Junction 117 (Giengen) is only a few hundred meters away. The convenient location is particularly advantageous for logistics companies. Amazon will use the new building for parcel delivery on the so-called last mile in the B2C business.

"The companies in the GIP A7 are part of our local economy and a great opportunity for Giengen," comments Mayor Dieter Henle. "At the same time, they enjoy appropriate support from our town." In this innovative environment, the Garbe/Honold joint venture offers further space options for interested tenants: Independently of the distribution center for Amazon, both partners are developing another property on the 78,000 square meter site. It will have a total area of 23,000 square meters plus offices, social rooms and mezzanine areas. This construction phase will be realized without fixed rental commitments. It is suitable for companies from the commercial, logistics, production and light industrial sectors. Space can be rented from a size of approx. 5,700 square meters. "There is a lot of interest," emphasizes Jan Dietrich Hempel, Managing Director of Garbe Industrial Real Estate. "The new building meets the highest standards and offers future tenants optimal usage options. This type of space is in high demand, and the location here with such excellent connections is highly attractive." The second construction phase is scheduled for completion in June 2022.

The entire property not only meets current customer requirements, but is also planned to be particularly sustainable. The majority of the roof will be greened. A photovoltaic system will be installed on the remaining area to generate renewable energy. A multi-storey parking lot is planned next to the Amazon distribution center, offering parking spaces for vans and cars on four levels, so that valuable land area can be used for other purposes. The site is also to be connected to the public transport network with a bus stop. Garbe and Honold are aiming for certification in accordance with the Gold Standard of the German Sustainable Building Council for the entire property. "We want to set ecological standards with this building," says Managing Director Jan Dietrich Hempel. In total, the two project partners are investing around 58 million euros in the Giengen site.
