Pick-by-voice for delicatessens
The Lydia-Voice pick-by-voice solution at the Feinkost Dittmann logistics center in Diez ensures that olives, antipasti, capers and garlic specialties are put together for customer deliveries efficiently and without errors.
Feinkost Dittmann recently introduced nine models of the Voxter Elite mobile voice computer at its warehouse location in Diez. The family-run company's portfolio currently comprises around 1,000 items from the dry and fresh product range, and its customer base includes well-known food chains.
Until 2005, the 5,000m2 warehouse in Diez was still picking using paper lists. Due to capacity bottlenecks caused by expansion, Feinkost Dittmann opted for pick-by-voice as a technical solution and for the provider topsystem. Initially, the company took advantage of the hardware independence of Lydia Voice and started with 18 standard HP PDAs. According to the company, the voice-guided picking process increased warehouse efficiency by 15 percent, while complaint rates and administrative costs were significantly reduced. In addition, the random quality control process was completely eliminated, as paper picking also eliminated the source of errors. Lydia Voice guides the employees at Feinkost Dittmann through the various storage areas with a total of 7,000 pallet spaces in a route-optimized manner.
Most recently, nine Voxter Elite have been added to the existing 21 Voxter Black. A Lydia VoiceWear is also in use. The ergonomic picking vest is primarily used to train new employees. Christian Leberzam, Head of Warehouse Logistics, is impressed by the performance of the Voxter Elite: "One of the advantages of the Voxter is its fast and reliable voice recognition."
